HOW I OVERCAME THE FEAR OF DYING ~ Precious Victor Akah
2 Timothy 1:10, "Now Christ Jesus has come to offer us God's gift of undeserved grace. Christ our Savior defeated death and brought us the good news. It shines like a light and offers life that never ends."
This Scripture reveals two truths to us as believers: one, Jesus has destroyed, defeated and abolished death. The implication of this is that once you're a child of God, you belong to God; Christ Jesus becomes your Saviour, Master and Lord. If you belong to God and Christ has become your Saviour, Master and Lord, how then can death, which the Lord Jesus had defeated and destroyed have power over you or come to claim your life? It is impossible! Jesus defeated and destroyed death for your sake.
So you should not be afraid of death anymore, why? Because death does not have power over you as a child of God. What you're meant to enjoy as a child of God is life and life eternal. Death cannot successfully attack you and kill when your life is hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).
So if you're born again and death has been snatching your siblings or members of your family one after the other and you are afraid that death may come for you, understand and believe this truth: JESUS HAS DESTROYED DEATH for your sake. You are meant to live to declare the goodness of the Lord. Death cannot claim your life through sickness. Death cannot kill you through vehicle accident. Death cannot kill you in your sleep. It cannot! You have become untouchable to death. You only return to God your Father when He calls you home by Himself, if Jesus tarries.
See what Hebrews 2:14-15 reveals, "We are people of flesh and blood. This is why Jesus became one of us. He died to destroy the devil, who had power over death. But he also died to rescue all of us who live each day in fear of dying." CEV
Don't be afraid of death anymore! Don't live in fear of dying! Death has no power over you because Jesus has destroyed both death and the one who had the power of death, the devil. If the devil cannot defeat you, how then can death destroy you? It's impossible! Let this truth sink into your heart and motivate you to exude confidence henceforth. You can't have a fatal accident when you're traveling on the road, sea or air. You can't take a poisoned food, drink or poisonous substance unknowingly and die. You can't go to the delivery room as a pregnant woman and die in labour. You can't!.
The second truth revealed to us in 2 Timothy 1:10 is that Jesus has brought life and immortality (life that never ends) to all men through the Gospel. This means that once you accept the Gospel of Jesus, you are entitled to live your full life span on earth (no premature death); you'll fulfill your days on earth, and you're also entitled to live forever in the Kingdom of God with God the Father and Jesus His Son. Isn't this wonderful?
These two truths are what liberated me from the fear of dying after being born again: Acceptance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and understanding of the Scripture that Jesus has destroyed, defeated and abolished death.
Accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ if you're yet to accept Jesus. After that, get understanding of this scripture - 2 Timothy 1:10. And live your life free from the fear of dying. Believe this Scripture and constantly confess it incase you're faced with death: Psalm 118:17: "I will not die, but I will live and tell what the Lord has done."
