MY SECRET BUT OPEN SIN by Precious C Philip

“I am a God who is everywhere and not in one place only. No one can hide where I cannot see them. Do you not know that I am everywhere in heaven and on earth?" Jeremiah 23:23-24

There is honestly nothing like secret sin before God; it might be a secret sin before men, but it is not a secret to God. The sin man calls secret is an open sin before God. We might call it secret because it is hidden from man, but it is an open sin before God. That sin you're comfortable commiting because you do it in secret where no man sees you is actually more dangerous than 'open sin', because the fact that you think it is secret makes you indulge in it more for you think no man is seeing you.

This is why the devil loves secret sins. Because he's able to use it to steal a believer's blessings, destroy a believer's glorious destiny, and kill a believer and send him/her to hell. The devil really accomplishes more of his evil plans with secret sins than with open sins; because for open sins, someone can rebuke you and you repent immediately for accountability sake or for other strong reasons, but for secret sins, no man knows, so no one can rebuke you except the Holy Spirit. And when the Holy Spirit does, you're more likely to ignore Him because you think He is merciful, or He can't hurt you, or that He won't expose you; and so the devil holds you down for long in that secret sin, waiting for the right time to destroy you completely. Please be not ignorant of the devices of the devil.

God speaking in Jeremiah says "For I am closely watching you, and I see every sin. You cannot hope to hide from me." Jeremiah 16:17
Therefore, that sin you call secret sin is laid open before God who is the Judge of all. And He has said He'll judge our deeds: "God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad." Ecclesiastes 12:14

So don't feel safe because that sin is hidden from man - man is not the one to judge you on the last day - but God. Therefore, repent and give up every secret sin in order to receive good judgement from God on the last day. Fear God, not man. If you fear God, you'll not engage in secret sins, for you fear God's judgement. But if you fear men, you'll engage in secret sins, because you don't fear God's judgement but dread man's judgement.

What are some sins people practice secretly and are regarded as "secret sins"? Envy, tale bearing, watching pornography, masturbation, lust, jealousy, pride, adultery, slander, covetousness, murder, fornication, private prostitution, bribery, stealing, ... these are some sins people commit in secret that is usually hidden from the public, but none of these sins is hidden from God.

Hebrews 4:13 warns "There is nothing that can be hid from God; everything in all creation is exposed and lies open before his eyes. And it is to him that we must all give an account of ourselves."
Whenever you're tempted to engage in a secret sin, always remember that scripture above and this scripture too: "For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all." Luke 8:17

Confess and forsake every secret sin today. Repent of all hidden sins. Open up to someone; confide in a godly, truthworthy person if you need help overcoming that secret sin. Get accountability and receive your permanent freedom. The power of secret sins is secrecy. Secret sins lose their power over you when they're confessed. "Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results." James 5:16

Always remember, "You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you" Proverbs 28:13.

Shalom!
