FOLLOWING WHAT IS POPULAR

It is popular. It is what is trending. Everybody is doing it. It is a normal thing. But is it the right thing? That thing is popular and everybody is doing it, but is it right? As a child of God, how passionate are you about pleasing your Heavenly Father and showing Him that you genuinely love Him by pursuing after what is right, not just what is popular?

We are in a world where what is popular is trending and what is right is not trending. We live in a world where majority of the people is always on the lookout for what is popular, and once they catch a glimpse of it, they quickly embrace it without giving a second thought as to whether it is right or wrong.

Today, what is popular has more fans than what is right. In fact, people celebrate you and applaud you when you're following what is popular. But following what is right attracts little or no praise. Why? Many people today don't care about doing what is right; they’re only consumed with doing what is popular even though it may be wrong. They just want to fit in. They want to feel good. They want to be accepted. They desire to receive the praise and compliments of men. They fear rejection and being different. They would rather walk with the multitude on the wrong path than walk with God or with minority on the right path. So when they see someone who is different from them, who is after what is right and not just what is popular, they attack them –they try all they can to dissuade them from doing right and successfully get them onto the path of ‘what is popular’.

Their belief is: if everyone is doing it, then it must be right, or even though it is wrong, since the society accepts it, it'll gradually change to become right. Some also believe that since a lot of people are doing it although it is wrong, God would reconsider and show mercy, because He cannot cast such a large number of people into hell as He is merciful and not a wicked God. How deceived they are! They do not understand that God is righteous, just, and possess integrity, these characteristics therefore compels God to keep to His word, to do what is right and just, and to do whatever He has said He will do no matter the situation. Consider the destruction of mankind by flood recorded in the Old Testament, and God sparing just eight people out of the millions of people in the world then (2 Peter 2:5) and get right with God today. God is changeless. God's word cannot be changed. It is forever established. Heaven and earth shall pass away but God's word cannot pass way. God specifically warns such people in Acts 17:30-31 saying "God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him. For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead.” What God says is right is forever right. What God says is wrong is forever wrong.

Dear child of God, please bear this truth in mind always: WHAT IS POPULAR IS NOT ALWAYS RIGHT, AND WHAT IS RIGHT IS USUALLY NOT POPULAR. WHAT IS POPULAR MAY NOT BE WHAT IS RIGHT, AND WHAT IS RIGHT MAY NOT BE WHAT IS POPULAR. Therefore, when what is popular is not right, do that which is right, giving no attention to what is popular. And when what is right is not popular, still stick to what is right. For 1 John 3:7 says “Let no one deceive you, my children! Whoever does what is right is righteous, just as Christ is righteous“, and James 4:17 says “Whoever knows what is right but doesn't do it is sinning.” Whosoever therefore has been born again to become righteous will do what is right regardless of what is popular. They're not moved by what is popular. They're only moved by what is right. Have you been born again? Have you been made righteous? Do always that which is right. Say what is right, and act based on what is right.

What is popular in our world today? Playing and singing secular vile music praising immorality, watching TV series showcasing sexual immoral acts, sexually provocative movies and music, sex before marriage, moving in with someone you're not legally married to, vulgar comedies, naughty jokes, cuss words, wearing clothes revealing your boobs, cleavage, thighs, stomach, and back, tight-fitting clothes that accentuates your body contour and sexy clothes that quickly sends the signal to a man's brain that a woman is naked because the color of her cloth tones with her skin color, thereby inciting him to lust, alcoholism and drunkenness, nightclubbing, snorting narcotics and smoking cigarettes, gambling, abortion, pregnancy before marriage, divorce, homosexuality, pornography, masturbation, polygamy, adultery (having a side chick as a married man), bribery, internet fraud, office theft, lying, cheating, dishonesty in business, and so much more. But using the Bible to judge these acts, none of them is right in God's eyes, even though it is popular today - a lot of Christians are doing it, but it is not right!

Do not follow the multitude to do wrong, Exodus 23:2 admonishes. If as a child of God you're guilty of following what is popular and not what is right, confess the sin to God today and repent of it. God loves you and is ready to forgive you. Make a firm decision to henceforth follow and do what is right, and not just what is popular, and stick to your decision. Also, before welcoming and adopting whatever is popular, always check if it is right using the word of God, the Bible, as your standard for determining what is right and what is wrong. When the Bible does not specifically address an issue, ask the Holy Spirit or someone who is more spiritually mature than you are.

A TRUE CHILD OF GOD DOES NOT LIVE BY WHAT IS POPULAR.

A TRUE CHILD OF GOD LIVES BY WHAT IS RIGHT IN GOD’S EYES.

Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children.” 1 John 2:29

God bless you.
