LIVING PURE IN A SEX-CRAZED WORLD –III
Satan is striving feverishly to infiltrate the minds and hearts of people by suggestively packaging sin—presenting it in such a way as to make it seem okay. Sexual immorality, for example, is being fed to the public through news broadcasts, television sitcoms, web and public adverts, movies, and music videos. If you pay attention too long, they might begin to seem acceptable and even appealing to you.
All forms of sexual activity outside the covenant of marriage is wrong (Hebrews 13:4; Galatians 5:19). Many of the things that the world accepts and okays is vile in God’s sight (Romans 1:18-32). Hebrews 4:12 says that the Word of God judges, exposes and analyzes all things. Therefore, as believers, we should let the Word of God be our judge of what is right and wrong. If the Bible says something is incorrect, then it is incorrect—period! Holiness is “being of one mind with God.” Hebrews 12:14 instructs believers to pursue peace and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. Adopting the attitudes of the world’s system will inevitably set you against God and position you to miss the blessings He has for you. Don’t allow the desire to “fit in” blind you to the truth. Satan wants to dupe you into believing that his way of thinking and doing is the way to go; however, fitting in with his crowd will cost you a lot (Deuteronomy 28:15-68; Romans 6:23).
As a Christian, you should strive to renew your mind to the truth of God’s Word, so that you can conform to His image and be able to discern truth from error, no matter how “socially or politically correct” it seems to be. God’s word is a book of guidelines born out of love and designed to bring us to a place of peace, rest, joy, abundance, lasting success and fulfillment. Obeying His word connects you to every dream, vision, provision, and promise you can imagine. You can choose how great a life you experience by choosing how much of God’s word you will obey. The choice is yours.
Obedience to God’s word and commands sets you apart from the crowd. The world is full of people who have made their own rules and follow their own standards that don't line up with God's Word. As a result, they experience the negative outcomes of disobeying God. But when you obey God, you demonstrate that you belong to Him. Exodus 19:5 says, "Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine."
At times it may be challenging to go against the grain and obey God in the midst of the world's system which disregards what He says. You may even have family members, friends, colleagues at work, and loved ones whose lifestyles contradict the Bible. Your obedience in the midst of their behavior makes you a shining light and example to them. When the blessings of God begin to show up in your life, they'll want an explanation as to how and why good things are happening to you. You'll be able to witness the love of God to them and let them know that obeying His Word pays off.
The bottom line is that it is wise and in your best interest to obey all of God’s commands, including staying chaste till marriage.
Let me give you a brief rundown on the consequence of sexual sin. Just like in the Garden of Eden, the results of sin are not limited to one person. What happens to one affects another. For instance, the act of fornication involves at least two people. However, these days, many more could be involved, as in group sex. If a pregnancy results, another life or more is added to the equation. One bad decision, in the heat of passion, or weakly following popular opinion can affect an entire family for a lifetime.
Another result of “sin sex” is sexually transmitted diseases—or STDs. The number of people affected by STDs is on the rise and is at pandemic levels, affecting a large population. Yet another consequence, which is the most grievous, is what the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:16: “Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” Once two people goes into sexual intercourse, either in marriage or outside marriage, there is this “flow” exchanged from one onto another that establishes a covenant (1 Corinthians 6:16).There is this spiritual interchange of curses, problems, generational flows and the likes, into each other's lives when sexual intercourse happens between a man and a woman, especially outside marriage. So as many people you have sex with, as many problems, curses and generational flows you invite into your life. Many people are in affliction today, simply because they had sex with someone who has a certain affliction and now they are sharing in it, living with it, believing that it is God's will for their life, when it is the consequence of their disobedience to God. Except the covenant is broken by the power of God, such a man or woman will remain with that affliction till death.
Remember the saying, “If everyone else jumps off a bridge, would you do it too?” Well, before you decide to follow popular opinion or a media craze, stop and think about it. Also, remember you will receive the corresponding popular results I just talked about, not to mention social shame, a broken heart, or the ultimate—missing God and missing Heaven.
Popular opinion can vary from day to day. James 1:7 says God does not change. In the end, God is always right. It may take a while before it is obvious, but He has the last word. Moreover, the Word of God is accurate, dependable, wise, and remains standing, long after popular opinion isn’t popular anymore.
If you are ever in doubt about whether the Bible is still relevant or current with the times, the book of Isaiah makes it plain- remember these words: “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever” (Isaiah 40:8, NLT).
God bless you.
