THE EYE~ Precious Victor Akah

I recently watched this Christian movie where a man (a born again married man) who struggled with the sin of adultery had a terrible car accident, resulting in the loss of his ability to see with his two eyes. God in the movie said that He took this man's two eyes away just so that He can save his soul from perishing in hell. The man had no mastery over his eyes; he could not control his eyes from admiring and lusting after beautiful women; he failed to train himself to resist sexual advances from women.

Prior to the car accident however, the man had repented of his sins and asked God for forgiveness and sought divine help to overcome the sin of adultery. So God extremely loving him and honoring his request decided to help him by taking his two eyes away just to save his soul. This reminds me of the scripture that says to us, "And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It’s better to enter eternal life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell." Matthew 18:9. Jesus Himself made this statement.

Today, a lot of Christians are suffering just because they cannot control their eyes - what they see, what they admire, what they look upon, what they expose their eyes to. The lust of the eyes has completely taken over them, making them have an unhealthy eye, hence live an unhealthy life. Scripture says that if your eye is healthy/good, your whole body will be healthy/good too, but if your eye is bad/unhealthy, your whole body will be bad/unhealthy too, why? Because your eye is the lamp of your body.

"Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness. Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.” Luke 11:34-36 (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)

"The eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive, focused on God], your whole body also is full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts]. But when it is bad [spiritually blind], your body also is full of darkness [devoid of God’s word]. Be careful, therefore, that the light that is in you is not darkness. So if your whole body is illuminated, with no dark part, it will be entirely bright [with light], as when the lamp gives you light with its bright rays.” Luke 11:34-36 (AMPLIFIED BIBLE)

If you want to live a holy life as a child of God, you must train your eyes to behold only holy things. You cannot constantly expose your eyes to unholy things and expect to successfully live a holy life. If your desire is to live a sexually pure life as a married or unmarried man or woman, you must be very intentional about the things you expose your eyes to.

For instance, you know that when you see a woman seductively dressed, you will be tempted to lust after her, then, when you see such a woman passing by, look away, don't look at her for any reason. Bible says flee all appearances of evil. So, flee! And if you come across such image on social media, flee too! Don't look at her to criticize/analyze or condemn her in your heart - you will get carried away. Don't give the devil a chance to sow or deposit that unholy image in your mind or memory. Flee!

You want to stop doing nasty and shameful things in the secret with your body, then stop feeding your eyes with ungodly sights. To stop masturbating or fornicating in the secret, stop feeding your eyes pornographic images and videos. What you feed your eyes with and fix your eyes upon determines what happens to your body. If your body will be full of light (righteousness, purity, holiness) you must consciously choose to expose your eyes to good and godly things. But if you're nonchalant about it and expose your eyes to just anything, you'll have a body that is full of darkness (sin, evil, immorality, unrighteousness) at the end of the day.

If you're able to guard your eyes from evil and guide your eyes towards good, you'll be able to live a clean life. The lust of the eyes: lusting after riches, wealth, power, influence, illicit sex, ungodly pleasure, has destroyed the lives of many Christians and sent them to the world beyond very early. Some however, though still breathing, are suffering a great deal because of what the inability to tame their eyes has caused them. You'll not be a victim in Jesus' Name.

Exercise control over your eyes; your eyes should not be the one controlling you - that you allow it to watch/look/admire/see whatever it wants to watch/look/admire/see. If your eyes control you, it'll lead you to regrets and destruction. So, receive grace and strength from the Holy Spirit to always have your eyes subject to you.

Whatever you know that when your eyes sees or beholds will doubtlessly lead you to sin, avoid by all means possible, if you desire to have a body filled with light.
Avoid browsing that ungodly site. Desist from visiting those pages or profiles on social media that leaves you hungry and desperate to have money by any means, to find a life partner by all means, to have illicit sex, to engage in heinous crimes, or to have the latest clothes, shoes, bags, hair, car etc, by whatever means. Desist!
Focus your eyes on things that fuels your passion, fans your calling and promotes the realization of God's plan and purpose for your life. Remain blessed.

Shalom.
