FUNNY FALLACY ~ Precious C Philip

I once read this funny statement on social media: "Doing good to people is the secret to God's blessings". In others words, I just need to be good to people and I'll have God's blessings. I don't need to walk with God. I don't need to have a relationship with God. I don't even need to know God nor keep the commandments of God to receive the blessings of God. All I need to do is to be good to people and I'll have God's blessings. This was funny to me seeing how some modern Christians are allowing the devil to use them to propagate heresies (the statement was made by a professing Christian). Judging by God's word, is that statement correct? Let's search the scriptures.

Deuteronomy 28:1-2 says "If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God:"
Do we find any part of this scripture above saying that to access God's blessings, you just need to be good to people? Well, no! Does this mean I'll get blessed even if I treat people bad? Nope! Why? Because part of the commandments of God you need to keep to enjoy God's blessings is to love your neighbor; and if you love your neighbor, you can't treat them bad.

So, what is the REAL SECRET to accessing God's blessings: Complete obedience to ALL of God's commandments. The principal requirement according to God to obtain His blessings is OBEDIENCE TO ALL HIS COMMANDMENTS, not obedience to some of His commandments you like or find 'easy' to obey, but total obedience to ALL of His commandments contained in the Bible the Holy Spirit living in you expects you to keep. This therefore means you must first become a child of God by being born again, so you can receive the Holy Spirit who empowers you on a daily basis to keep all the commandments of God; because the commandments of God cannot be kept with mere willpower and human strength.

If for instance you live in disobedience to God's commandments in the Bible, but try your best to treat people nice, you're not going to have access to God's blessings. Because He expects you to know Him, walk with Him, keep all His commandments, and put Him first, not people first. That is why the first and greatest commandment in the Bible given by God's Son - Jesus, is: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (Matthew 22:36), and according to 1 John 5:3, loving God means obedience to His commandments.

Also, Matthew 6:33 commands us to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and everything else will be added to us (meaning, all of God's blessings will come to us). That scripture does not say seek first to please men or to be good to people and you'll have all of God's blessings, no, it doesn't.

You might argue and say, "Obeying God's commandments is simply doing good to people", or "When I do good to people, I'm obeying God's commandments." Well, if you're reading your Bible adequately or you're a student of the Bible, you'll understand that the instructions and commandments of God given to God's children are beyond just being good to people; even, doing good to people is not loving your neighbor as the second greatest commandment says. They're both different things entirely. I explained the difference in this article: https://ovcss.blogspot.com/2021/06/which-is-easier-to-be-nice-and-good-to.html

Therefore, the belief that doing good to people is the secret to God's blessings is a great misconception that is unscriptural. This is what the scripture says: Obedience to all of God's commandments is the key to enjoying God's blessings (Deuteronomy 28:1-2).
Whoever initiated the illusion that being good to people is the key to God's blessings probably received a material gift or reward for treating someone nice, and to him, that is God's blessings, so he quickly concluded out of excitement that you just need to treat people nice and you'll have God's blessings. But it is a BIG FALLACY.

You can treat people nice, but if you don't obey God's commandments to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness (promote His kingdom on earth, preach the gospel, win lost souls, live a righteous life, give to promote the Gospel of Jesus, pay your tithes faithfully, give to the poor, follow the teachings of the Bible, obey the instructions of the Holy Spirit...) you'll live on earth as though you're cursed; God's blessings will be far from you.

Moreover, God's blessings is not just having plenty of cash or material possessions, it goes beyond that to include things money cannot purchase, like good health, wisdom, divine protection, healing, long life, fruit of the womb, intelligence, discernment, favour, honor, power of the Holy Spirit...

So, obey God in full and you'll enjoy His blessings in full. Don't seek the shortcut of trying to be good/nice to people, it leads to a life of frustration and misery. I can tell you for free that whoever initiated that false belief is not enjoying the real blessings of God.

The key to access the blessings of God is to obey all the commandments of God contained in the Bible given to children of God and to listen to the instructions of the Holy Spirit after being born again. Being born again is the foundation to enjoy God's blessings, because that is when you become a part of God's family and receive the (spiritual) BLESSING of God, which then causes the (physical) BLESSINGS of God to manifest in your life when you start living in obedience to the commandments of God.

If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant." Job 36:11

"And if you will obey and you will listen to me, you shall eat the good of the Earth." Isaiah 1:19

God works by divine principles. If you would begin to live by the principles that govern divine blessings such as obedience, your life would turn around for good.

May God's blessings come on you and overtake you as you embrace a life of complete obedience to God's commandments in the Bible. Don't forget to check again next Monday for another enriching piece. Stay blessed.
