LIVING PURE IN A SEX-CRAZED WORLD –IV (FINAL PART)
Outlined below are additional steps you ‘must’ follow if you really want to live sexually pure:
Be Careful Of What You Watch
To live pure, you must guard your heart and mind. You do this by closely monitoring the things that you watch, read and listen to. Watching movies that have steamy love scenes, reading books, magazines, articles with sexual immoral content, or listening to music with ‘dirty’ lyrics can desensitize us and make immoral things seem “not so bad.” Instead of watching secular movies, music, comedy, TV shows/series, and videos that promote sexual immorality, watch Christian movies, read good books, listen to music that edifies your spirit man and enhance your relationship with God. Today, we have good Christian movies from Mount Zion Films Production, Flaming Sword Films Production, Overcomers Film Production International, Ladtem Films Production, etc. We also have lots of Christian programs and shows on television, even sermons on the internet (YouTube); watch and listen to them. Make it a point to monitor the material you allow into your spirit through your eyes and ears. It really does have an ability to alter your behavior.
All of us are really impacted by what we see, read and listen to, so keeping those standards high is really important. Spending daily time in God’s Word, meditating on God’s Word, is very important; because as we seek to fill our minds and hearts with what God says about these issues, we will be more likely to live out those principles. Guard the entrances to your heart, because what you look at, read, listen to and talk about in abundance will eventually manifest in your life (Proverbs 4:23).
Build Fences
Create barriers or boundaries in your life that help keep you out of potentially compromising situations. That is, create barriers that will hinder or restrain you from doing or looking at certain things that will lure you into any form of sexual sin. One of such barriers could be not to access certain websites by installing web protection software on your PC, or any gadget you are using. The software lets you block websites with sexual immoral contents and search safely on the net. ‘K9 Web Protection Software’ is one of those effective softwares. Other barriers could be not to go to certain places, undertake certain tasks, look at certain things, hang out with certain group of people, and avoid late-night visits and excess phone conversations with members of the opposite sex. You have to consistently place boundaries around your life that prevent you from being tempted. Avoid situations and people that are a temptation for you.
Pursue A Vibrant Relationship With God
Maintaining a vibrant relationship with the Lord is another most crucial factor in living a life of purity. If I know my Daddy, God, is looking out for me and wants my best, and He says that purity is important, then I’m going to embrace purity. If I’m wanting to please Him with my life, then that’s going to be the biggest motivation, because I don’t want a cloud of sin to come in between me and God. It also boils down to a matter of trust. We can trust that God’s way is the best way for us, or we can choose to trust that what the world tells us is best. When we know that God loves us and He’s got the best plans for us, then we will want to live His way. It’s when we doubt the heart of God and doubt His love for us that we have a really hard time with living His way, and so we live our own way and the way of the world.
In conclusion, if you are engaged in any form of sexual sin and you’re may be thinking your situation is so bad that you simply cannot change, I want to give you some good news today—you can! First, ask God to give you the desire to want to change. That’s right! You have to want change first. Then, make a commitment to the process. Find scriptures, up to 4 or 5 in the Bible, that deals with the area you are struggling with and make it a priority to make a verbal confession of those scriptures (audibly or in your heart) whenever the urge or desire to engage in that particular sexual sin comes. Lastly, meditate on those scriptures until they are more real to you than what you are going through. When you begin to think, speak, eat, and breathe the Word of God, you will begin to live it.
Note: Whenever you are tempted to sin, remind yourself that disobedience comes with a price. Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death. From your thoughts to your deeds, everything is a seed that will produce a harvest in your life. God wants to make sure that the harvest that grows in your life is good, so get in line with His way of thinking. Ask and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. He is faithful to always show you the way out of temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13). He’s already given you the victory—begin to walk in it today! May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you. Amen!
