READER, HEARER, DOER ~ Precious Victor Akah

Luke 11:27-28 "As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

A woman sitting under Jesus' teaching was highly impressed with the words and sayings of Jesus as He taught the crowd, so she called out, "Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you," but the unexpected reply Jesus gave her was simply incredible. Jesus said to her, "Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Jesus ceased the opportunity to stress the crucial need for all children of God to hear and obey God's Word to be blessed.

Oftentimes, we love to attend programmes where the Word of God will be preached powerfully, we listen to sermons, we study the Word of God on our own, but according to Jesus, if we fill our hearts with the Word of God but fail to obey, practice or do the Word we have heard, we'll not be blessed. The full blessing does not lie in hearing the Word of God, but lies in both hearing and obeying the Word of God. Therefore, hearing and obeying the word of God is the principle key to be blessed; it is what unlocks the full blessing.

When a pastor is preaching the word of God or the man of God ordained to feed us with the Word of God is ministering God's word, we should not, like the woman in the scripture we just read, be so focused on the eloquency, the charisma, the knowledge, wisdom or the anointing and grace the man of God carries and forget the main thing: giving adequate attention to what the man of God is saying and taking heed to obey God's word He has delivered unto us. It is when we do this that God is delighted.

God really takes pleasure in those that hear and obey His Word, that is why Jesus said such people will be blessed. James 1:22 stresses God's desire for us to be doers of His Word, "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."

Make a decision to be a doer of God's Word and not just a hearer and a reader. Be a HEARER, a READER and a DOER of God's Word. May the grace to be these three things come upon you right now in Jesus' Name. It is God's desire that His children be hearers, readers and doers of His Word.

Some Christians don't like to read the Word (Holy Bible), others don't like to hear the Word, and still others don't want to do the Word. May you not be found in this category of "Christians" this year in Jesus' Name. Decide today to be both a continuous hearer, a committed reader and a faithful doer of God's Word. When you do this, you shall not miss your pleasant reward in Jesus' Name.

James 1:22-25 reads thus:

[22]Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

[23]Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror

[24]and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

[25]But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, BUT DOING IT—they will be blessed in what they do."

"God is more pleased with the doers of His Word than with the hearers and readers of His Word who do not do what His Word says."

The one who will be blessed in what they do is the one who DOES the Word, not the one who merely hears or reads the Word without doing what it says. Become a hearer, a reader and a doer of God's Word.

Stay blessed.
