MEMORIES ~ Precious Victor Akah
Sitting on the train one day, as we passed a university institution, sweet memories of my university days flashed through my mind and my face beamed with smiles and joy filled my heart, as I remembered how delightsome my university days was. And I thought to myself, memories is a good thing. It's such a wonderful gift God gave to each one of us. We can always go back to enjoy the pleasant activities and precious moments we had in the past in our mind. Awesome!
However, for some people, they may not share the same thoughts with me. Why? Because they have really bad memories. They cannot reminiscence their university days or the lives they lived in the past and smile. And this stops them from moving forward whenever they reminiscence the past.
What am I saying in essence? God gave us the gift of memories, and He expects us to let Him guide and direct every aspect of our lives, so that we'll not make bad decisions, which will eventually give us bad memories. But as expected of human beings, many of us think we know more than God, or we don't need God to make right decisions, or we prefer to make mistakes and learn from our mistakes because we think experience is the best teacher.
But what we do not realize is that, each time we make a wrong decision because we don't care to acknowledge God as our Lord and listen to Him and heed His Word, we keep damaging our memories. Yes, you may make a wrong decision, and upon realizing that you made a wrong decision, you decide to do what is right, but then, you cannot erase the memory of the bad decision you just made and its consequences from your mind. You're stuck with it forever.
A lot of people are finding it very difficult to move forward in life and to make progress because they cannot forget their negative past; they cannot get rid of the bad memories which flashes back and forth in their minds whenever they attempt to move forward. They're unable to trash the bad memories of prostitution, abortion, robbery, defrauding, womanizing, adultery, stealing, killing, promiscuous living, heartbreaks, betrayals they had/did in the past. Memories of this keeps taunting and haunting them - preventing them from moving on with their life.
Learn from the experiences of others, it is not wise to choose to learn from your own experience, because you can end up with bad memories that will haunt you for life. Learn from God's Word also. There is no issue in life that God's Word has not already addressed. It has solution to every challenge. Moreover, you have the Holy Spirit to help you make right decisions if you're already born again (already a child of God by faith in Jesus Christ).
Additionally, whenever you're tempted by the devil to do anything that is wrong, always remember that even though you can repent and ask God for forgiveness and He forgives you, you may have to battle with the ugly memory of that ignoble and shameful act for a long time. That bad memory may stay with you for life. Exercise caution.
If you're dealing with bad memories that are stopping you from forgetting your negative past and moving forward in life, first of all, I'll admonish you to surrender your life to Jesus, afterwards, use the Word of God to wash your mind by studying and reading the Bible (acknowledge the fact that your past is dead and that you are a new person in Christ). Scripture says in 2 Corinthians 5:17, "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"
In addition, use the Blood of Jesus in prayer to constantly erase all bad memories of your negative past.
Confess: I USE THE BLOOD OF JESUS TO CLEANSE MY MIND AND TO ERASE ALL BAD MEMORIES OF MY NEGATIVE PAST IN JESUS' NAME. AMEN!
You are free from all torments of your negative past. You are free from all bad memories hindering you from moving forward in life, in Jesus' Name.
Stay blessed.
